Do Your Clients Go to Your Competitors Before They Even Visit Your Website?
Did you know that your potential clients may be going to your competitors before they even have a chance to visit your website? In the era of AI Search, ChatGPT, and Gemini, the decision about which company a user sees first is often made before they click on any link.
Artificial intelligence analyzes available information and recommends specific brands. If you are not part of that answer, the client may never reach you. In this article, I will show you:
- how to check your visibility in AI Search,
- how to check your competitors’ visibility,
- what to do to outperform them.
A Simple Test You Can Perform in 20 Minutes
Imagine the following situation: You own an apartment in Gdańsk and want to list it on Airbnb or Booking.com. You are looking for a company that can help you manage short-term rentals in the Tri-City area.
You go to ChatGPT and ask: “I want to rent out my apartment in Gdańsk on Airbnb. Which company can help me with that?”
The model generates a response and recommends a specific company. This is the moment when the decision is made. Not in Google. Not on your website. In the AI response. Why was that particular company recommended? This is a question every business owner should ask.
Why AI Recommends Some Companies and Ignores Others
Based on the analysis of such cases, several key elements increase visibility in AI:
A Well-Developed FAQ Section
A well-prepared FAQ section is not just a list of questions and short answers. It is real problem solving. Language models analyze whether your website: answers specific concerns, explains the process, eliminates doubts, and organizes information clearly.
If your FAQ truly guides the user step-by-step through their problem, it builds authority in the eyes of both people and AI.
A Strong and Detailed Homepage
In many cases, companies recommended by AI have an exceptionally well-structured homepage. It often includes: a section about client security, an explanation of whether the service is profitable, and a transparent presentation of the cooperation process.
This is extremely important. If a user does not understand how the cooperation process works, uncertainty appears. And uncertainty lowers conversion. Your website should clearly show what happens from the first contact and what the next steps look like. A lack of this information creates space for competitors to overtake you.
How to Identify Your Real Competitors in AI
Many business owners analyze competitors only in traditional Google search results. Meanwhile, in AI Search, completely different companies often appear. That is why the first step should be:
- go to ChatGPT or Gemini,
- ask a question the way your client would,
- request a solution and a company recommendation.
Then prepare a list of five companies that appear most often. This is your real competition in AI.
What to Do Next
Once you have a list of companies recommended by language models, visit their websites and check: whether they run an up-to-date blog, whether their content is expert-level, and whether they publish case studies or client reviews. This is not about copying content. It is about understanding what your website is missing.
Implement Changes and Measure Results
Often, a dozen specific modifications are enough to significantly improve visibility (expanding content, adding a FAQ, clarifying the cooperation process). However, analysis alone is not enough. Measuring results is essential. The changes you implement should translate into real inquiries and new clients.
Why This Matters
Every AI recommendation is a potential client. If you are not part of the answer, your competitors take the traffic, inquiries, and revenue. The good news is that you can check this yourself in less than thirty minutes and build a concrete list of actions to implement. Even better, just a few well-planned changes can result in new clients within two months.
